Join Air Quality Sciences and GREENGUARD at CIRI’s Green Cleaning & Science

National, interactive symposium focuses on green cleaning and health

(Atlanta, GA)Air Quality Sciences, Inc. (AQS) and the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) join the Cleaning Industry Research Institute (CIRI) in announcing a national, interactive symposium focused on green cleaning and health. The event, hosted by CIRI, will be held at the Global Conference Center of the Georgia Institute of Technology, April 27-29, 2011.

AQS plans to kick off the program on April 27th with a tour of its LEED Gold corporate headquarters in Marietta, Georgia.  The tour will highlight AQS’s state-of-the-art testing and research facility, including its world-renowned environmental chamber laboratory, which houses more than 90 individual chambers. There, products and materials are evaluated for emissions criteria--sometimes as part of a manufacturer's participation in third-party certification services, like Germany's Blue Angel program or the GREENGUARD Certification Program. Additionally, a series of dedicated consumer room chambers evaluate cleaning processes and their efficacy.

AQS has a long history of working with manufacturers to develop healthier cleaning systems, which address both sustainability and toxicity. “Before the general public recognized the negative impacts of traditional cleaning methods, AQS had cultivated the science, created specialized testing environments, and disseminated the message of health and effectiveness. Our work in indoor air quality (IAQ) has always been about leading the discovery and awareness of the connections between IAQ and health,” explains Tony Worthan, vice president of AQS.

Facilitated by Dr. Steven Spivak, chair of the CIRI Science Advisory Council, the symposium will incorporate discussions among prominent scientists and industry leaders–including GEI’s founder, Dr. Marilyn Black-regarding key issues in green cleaning and cleaning for health. Other topics include perceptions of green cleaning in the marketplace, overcoming greenwashing, cleaning effectiveness, benefits and tradeoffs associated with cleaning programs pursuing green, and the future of green cleaning. This exchange of information will benefit facility and asset managers (both commercial and institutional), procurement managers, specifiers, industry professionals, and green policy makers. To register for CIRI’s “Green Cleaning & Science,” April 27-29, 2011, please visit www.ciriscience.org.
