The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute's (GEI) scientific partners assist in the development of the GREENGUARD Certification programs and provide related services. Partners provide expertise in health science, toxicology, chemical measurement technologies, and certification services. The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute has established a laboratory performance program to ensure that precise, accurate emission data are obtained among testing laboratories providing data for GREENGUARD Certification programs.
Qualification guidelines provide detailed descriptions of environmental chamber operation, testing procedures, quality control measures and verification/proficiency requirements. Laboratories must be ISO 17025 accredited with the GREENGUARD test methods defined within the scope of accreditation. In addition, the laboratory must perform to third-party proficiency requirements, both analytical measurements and environmental chamber testing.
Laboratory Qualification for Emissions Laboratories
Air Quality Sciences, Inc.
Air Quality Sciences (AQS) has been instrumental in establishing the technical framework of the GREENGUARD Certification programs and serves as a primary scientific resource. Founded in 1989, AQS is a recognized world leader in indoor air quality (IAQ), product emissions testing and IAQ building studies. Air Quality Sciences operates the largest environmental chamber laboratory in the world with over 60 environmental chambers ranging from small (0.05 m3) to large (32 m3). As an early pioneer in environmental chamber testing, AQS has worked jointly with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and other organizations to develop methodologies for measuring emissions from many products including office furniture, paints and coatings, carpet and other flooring, cleaners and cleaning systems, office printers and appliances. From its extensive testing of over 70,000 different products, AQS has created a database of thousands of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other indoor air pollutants, which are expected to be emitted from products. In addition, AQS was the first emission laboratory to achieve ISO 17025 accreditation for emissions testing. It is also an approved testing partner for programs such as Germany's Blue Angel Program, EcoLogo and the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) program. Air Quality Sciences is an ISO 9001 Registered and ISO 17025 Accredited firm headquartered in Marietta, Georgia.
